The Recruiter/Candidate Relationship

The Recruiter’s role. Our job is to fill positions and/or to market you to clients/prospects. To be successful, full disclosure and access to one another is critical. Our fees are paid by our clients.

Confidentiality. Anything we discuss about the hiring company is strictly confidential. We will expect you not to disclose any information about where you’ve interviewed, whom you’ve interviewed with, or any details from your interview. In return, we will be sure to get your permission before we disclose any information about you to prospective employers including your resume.

Accuracy and disclosure. We will assume that everything you tell us about yourself is factual, including your skills, education, work history and salary. A candidate that provides false or misleading information during his/her candidature may be subject to legal action against the individual. Clients may request proof of your current salary. We will not make any claims regarding your background that we know are not true, nor will we disclose anything about you that you ask us to keep confidential, as long as your request does not interfere with our ability to do our job.

Referrences. We will need 4-6  business references from you to begin your search.

The Job Search. We are looking for the following for you:

  1. Positions that are compatible to you
  2. Positions that you can achieve your short term and long term goals
  3. Positions where your salary expectation can be met

Commitment to the search and hiring process. We will ask you to commit at each stage of the process. If you don’t feel comfortable it’s okay to tell us so. One of our biggest fears is a person who says ‘Yes’ to something when he or she actually means ‘No.’ People do this because they are polite and don’t want to be confrontational in most cases. A job search is an emotionally charged process and it is important to operate in an environment of truth.

Marketing. In addition to the focused search on your behalf, a capsule of your background will added to our monthly Top Candidate Synopsis and sent to clients to generate interest. Your contact and employer information is not included in this capsule.

Status. If anything about your employment or job search status changes, you will need to let us know right away.

Making the match. If your background fits an open position, and you approve, we will present your qualifications with the intention of setting up an interview. If the situation is appropriate, we will also explore other positions within the company to give you as many options as possible.

Coaching. As personnel consultants, we will help you prepare for interviews and improve the quality of your presentation. We may also make suggestions regarding the content and appearance of your resume, but we will not make any changes until we have discussed them with you.

Brokering the deal. If you and the employer are interested in working together, we will work with both parties to put together an acceptable offer. Once the offer is accepted, we will give you some tips on how to make a graceful exit from your current job and a smooth transition to your new one.

Counteroffers. Counteroffers from current employers keep you from moving in the short term. In the long term it works against you. You will be branded less loyal, hurting your long term prospects. Your current manager now knows you are looking and he will keep you as long as it is convenient for him.

Referrals. In the same way that we are going to do our best in trying to move your career forward, there is a way that you can help us as well. There are two types of people that we are able to help in the work that I do. One is someone who excels at what they do and currently looking for a position. The other is someone who excels at what they do and is not currently looking.
